Lamingtons!

I've been meaning to write about this. On New Year's Eve (it was only a few weeks ago, can you believe it?) my parents and I had friends over for dinner. They brought an awesome dessert along with them. They brought lamingtons, a popular Australian treat. {Lamingtons are typically cube-shaped sponge cakes with chocolate frosting sprinkled with ground coconut.} They had actually won our neighborhood baking competition with them. They called them "Royal Request" and laid them out on a silver platter - fitting, isn't it? No one had ever even heard of lamingtons and they were a big hit.

It turns out though, that I had already heard of lamingtons from my favorite YouTuber, Natalie Tran. She's a Vietnamese Australian vlogger who makes videos about awkward situations - for example, receiving really confusing directions from someone; the awkwardness of trying to walk past someone who is walking toward you on the same side of a sidewalk as you. But she also loves lamingtons, and his been promising her viewers and subscribers that she'll make them a lamingtons video, but she hasn't yet. She has however, talked about lamingtons in a number of her videos (see below). Check out 1:27-2:10.

Here are some pictures of the lamingtons we had on New Year's Eve!
